Quantum Computing with Trapped Ions
The recent progress in quantum sciences and technological developments have led to concrete efforts towards the construction of a practically useful quantum information processors in recent years. One of the leading candidates for realizing this goal is the trapped ion platform. Introduction of advanced integration technologies to this traditional atomic physics research has provided an opportunity to convert a complex atomic physics experiment into a stand-alone programmable quantum computer. In this presentation, I will discuss the basic principles of quantum computing with trapped ions, and introduce new enabling technologies that changes the perception of a trapped ion system as a scalable quantum computer.
